by Dr. Jeffrey Lant.
Author's program note. This is an article of joy and celebration, of luck and commitment, of cold nights, nimble fingers on the key board, and of a wrestling with words, from which God willing emerges a case clearly understood, clearly argued, clear to all.
It is an article extolling hard work and the rightful pride that comes from a job well done, that is to say a job that is based on unending, meticulous research, on precise words precisely rendered, on fairness, on boldness, audacity, and risk, for no commentator wishing to rise to reputation, eminence and renown can tackle only the easy subjects, the light and airy subjects that make readers chuckle over their morning toast, only to be forgotten at once and forever.
This is an article about vision, about truth, about integrity and of tackling the difficult subjects, the subjects that rightly concern and alarm people of intellect and reason; people who rely on commentators to represent them and their desire for a better world.
It is the commentator's task to rouse, motivate, anger, chastise, warn, engage, outrage, admonish and always to educate; it is his righteous task to point to where injustice lurks and where there is a worthwhile difference to be made... then summon the words in all their power, force, and majesty to make certain it will be.
It is an article that reminds readers that "retirement" blights, eviscerates life and leaves one discontented, de trop, the intellectual edge gone, the need no longer apparent for getting out of bed to undertake something significant, noble, even sublime; saving a disconsolate child or a desolate nation the grand work which is our metier.
In the beginning there was the word... and it was no doubt published as an article.
I cannot recall a single day of my life when words and I were not in the closest possible communion, producing my first published article when just 5, over 61 years ago, then many thousands of articles (and many books, too). This is not to say, of course, that there were days, and not rare, when the words and I were not on speaking terms, each determined, before making up again, to cause infinite trouble and the kind of acute irritation only one who knows you well can connive and render just so for acute misery.
The music.
Before I go further into the arcane world of articles and commentators and my particular niche, I recommend you visit any search engine and listen to the film score of Orson Welles' 1941 classic "Citizen Kane" so closely based on newspaper king William Randolph Hearst, their spittle was deemed identical. Certainly the score by cinema master Bernard Herrmann (1911-1975) caught the larger than life publisher, at once mesmerizing, grandiloquent, sophisticated, grand as a white-tie evening at the opera; his faults as magnificent as his carefully promoted merits... a commentator's dream come true... But then a seasoned commentator could take a grain of sand and using it as the seed draw forth the rich lands of Egypt and the Nile and their mighty and glorious caravans. That is what I learned to do day by day, word by word, article by article; eager to learn; eager to share.
Scribbler, the early years.
>From the eminence of breaking into print at the hoary age of five, it was all up, up, and away. A string of editorships in high school; the school's paper, literary magazine, and class book and... importantly... a weekly column. That column continued in college... and it continued after I graduated from graduate school. Life for me was an intricate game of dreaming up subjects of importance, researching and writing them, then sitting pretty "having written", as my mother said, the happiest state in the cosmos.
When you add to this demanding agenda the fact that in those days I wrote a book a year (the text to be finished, significantly, by July 4, Independence Day), had a syndicated radio show, published the nation's largest card deck each quarter AND taught at a rotating roster of over 30 colleges, you may believe that life was hectic, needing efficiency, energy, precise timing, and the legerdemain that all true wizards possess, magic I had and to spare.
60, bone tired, art, and a man named Kosch.
One more thing must be added to the agenda of "things that must be accomplished" and that was my burgeoning collection of European art and artifacts. This is important for several reasons, including fulfilling a lifelong ambition. As my collection grew (rather like how Hearst's grew, with exuberance, frenzy, and a wide net) it soon became obvious that I needed to remodel my home to accommodate my frequent acquisitions... and so began over 5 years of discomfort, dislocation, and disarray, which is to say the usual chaos, confusion and constant expense which are the true expertise of any remodeler and what may loosely be called his "craft".
During this exhausting period I exhibited all the signs of a distressed individual enthralled by marauders, systematic fleecing being their goal and daily task, the host to be kept alive and trapped until the parasites have eaten everything. My blood sugar soared, my mood was as variable as New England's famously changeable weather, and when I had to move into a hotel for the last several weeks, I knew things had reached a nadir...
Needless to say during this time of self-induced troubles, my writing suffered; there was much to write about but my habits were injured along with everything else. The man of words wondered whether the last one had been written. And then George Kosch entered the picture.
George is a brilliant inventor of practical business and traffic generating software. He has a knack for knowing where the 'net is growing and therefore is able to invent the next sapient application... and the one after that; in short, he is just the fellow you want on your team if online profit is your goal, just as the third partner and co-founder of Worldprofit.com, Sandi Hunter, has demonstrated the patience of Job and the soothing touch of Mother Teresa in keeping customers worldwide happy and promptly served.
One day George asked me if I would write a couple of articles for our promotions and blogs. My reply speaks volumes for my emotional state: no, I said. But George is a clever guy and he persevered... just write a couple, he said; you know you can knock them out fast. Here's where I shall be forever grateful to him... for he knew that I would only be truly happy marshaling words to influence people. Then he clinched the deal by saying I could write about anything... "Anything?" I asked with a whiff of suspicion. "Yes, anything," he responded... and the deal was struck which in time gave members of Worldprofit.com over 1000 articles on a huge number of subjects... 1000, I might say, and counting. In short, I was given at the precise moment I needed it, an entirely new career at once challenging, exciting, worthwhile and pace setting, inventive, developing new ways to use words and change history.
Item: Ample space for developing a line of reason, nothing hurried, rushed or given the shortest of shrifts. As newspapers cut the amount of space dedicated to commentary, my articles, at least 1500 words, revived the personal essay so much a part of our glorious literature; supremely correct for the man who called himself The Master of the Lyric Words.
Item: Worldprofit personnel, called Monitors, were taught to read the articles with meaning, eloquence, proper pacing and verve thereby reaching millions of people through Worldprofit's Live Business Center who heard therein the Master's masterful prose rendered by the most artful of instruments, the human voice.
Item: A Writers Team was established, staffed by Monitors who assist me daily find critical facts and details; a team every writer that sees it envies.
Item: Music was added to every article, thus enhancing the impact of each piece as well as its instructional value.
Item: No punches were ever pulled. Where an article called for emotion, pain, even anguish and profound humanity, these were summoned and used. The goal at all times truth... the most difficult subject of all.
Item: Images were added to every article, again adding a new dimension.
Item: Flowers talked about their point of view; animals voiced their pleas for survival, as important to the planet as humans and given far less attention. All were real, not cartoons. Thus what they said was never sweet and superficial, but as vital and genuine as necessary to make their case as planetary co-voyagers, their sentiments as significant as ours. This, too, was new. As the articles began to appear, so did the warm response of readers worldwide, a response George Kosch monitored until he was ready to assist the process by inventing software that enables folks to create e-books in three minutes, video articles in less than a minute, and blog postings even faster. It was all Kosch, all Worldprofit.com, all good; all the content freely produced for and given to the members of our unique community.
"The last of life for which the first was made."
I am asked more often than most just when I shall retire. My answer comes from Edgar Allan Poe's raven, "Nevermore" and from the celebrated words above from Robert Browning, always quoted with reverence and affection by my mother.
Under the circumstances to retire, having been handed just the task for which everything in my fruitful life has prepared me would be deeply remiss and completely irresponsible. Why unless held at gunpoint would one stop the benefits of a broad education at several of the world's most famous universities; worldwide travels; a practical affability that makes human contact easier and more productive; words without stint and proven ability to add more to the language...
...all this diminished upon traditional "retirement", cast aside, along with great gifts and tools to stay always and forever young in mind and out look, always grateful to learn, even more grateful to share with readers who have given the emoluments of interest, intelligent response, and praise sufficient and lavish. It is indeed all good, a garden worth tending for all the days of my life, for the benefit of all, whether they know it yet or not.
Envoi.

'... before the darkness falls.' Thoughts on my father's last home, changing places and the pains that make us human.
by Dr. Jeffrey Lant
Author's program note. It is 3:07 a.m. here in the East. It is not so much that I cannot sleep. Rather, it's that I don't want to. I am thinking about my father as I often do. He is undoubtedly asleep now, has gotten safely through another day and will awake in due course to the promise of another. In other words, he is being well taken care of, and I don't need to worry, the Number One Son in Massachusetts; he in California. But I do worry...
"Jeffrey, let me ask you..."
He called me the other day, with that note of concern I've come to know and which bites me so. "Jeffrey let me ask you..." and so it started. Another chip to the father-son relationship which defined and guided us for so many years, now as ancient as the hills. Things between us, once well defined and wary, are changing now; changing, changing... we neither of us like it, but the realities of living always pulverize our mere wishes... and because we are living, we must still live, no matter how painful that may be. And it often is...
He asks.
"Jeffrey, you've never had a house have you?" "No, Dad, I never did."
"You've always lived in an apartment, haven't you?" "Yes, Dad, I have."
"You like it, don't you?" "Yes, Dad, I do."
"Why's that?" "Well, for openers I don't have to take out the garbage... or plant the flowers... or paint the fence... " And the list goes on.
"You used to hate doing those things, didn't you?" "Yes, Dad, every minute, every single one. I wanted to read. You wanted me to wash the windows." There is more than a little bit of asperity, accusation and unresolved irritation in my voice. I am 65, it all happened a half century ago and more; it shouldn't matter, but it does. Memory makes the long ago the active and unresolved, still on my agenda of things compelling attention. I might wish it doesn't matter, but it does.
"I do not plant or reap."
Now the benefits of apartment living pour forth. I discover I am defending my choices, as children of any age feel compelled to do from time to time. To live the life I want takes teams of people taking care of me. I am used to this and rely on them to do the necessary. This is how the privileged classes of history have lived; it is how I always wanted to live; it is how I live; it is how I want him to live; it is how he should live in this his too fast dwindling of days.
But he is of a different time and place, a time of self-reliance, where if you wanted warmth in winter, you chopped fire wood and so warmed yourself twice. I hated this work... and I hated all such things... things that obstructed the life I wanted; the life waiting for me, beckoning me, insinuating itself into every thought. "I am what you want, what you must have," and I couldn't wait to seize it. The myriad versions of chopping wood were important, but they were never imperative, like the dream that enthralled me. And thus there were problems and a battle that waxed and waned, but never stopped.
However he is not criticizing, judging, he is seeking something perhaps only I can give: confirmation that he has done the right thing, for with assisted living, without responsibilities, comes an avalanche of doubts, uncertainties, and the kinds of anxieties which force one to sit bolt upright in dead of night... and wonder...
"Jeffrey, I don't like not having a home anymore."
But he does have a home. It's in a wonderful facility that looks like a college campus or place on a golf course. He and Miss Ellie, his wife, did not rush their choice. They looked at the full range of possibilities, moved with due deliberation, not haste. Visited, revisited, discussed, revisited. There was no rush about it, though it was apparent to both a decision must be made and made while they were both entirely able to make it.
He recalls each house he has ever owned.
He is remembering now and my role is clear. I must hear what he says, completely... and I must pledge (though he doesn't say so) to remember. And so a chant begins; of houses built or bought; houses turned into homes and profits; a lifetime of patient acquisition and certain return. "I have always made money on every house we ever lived in." And he recites them now, not to brag, but so that he is sure I know and will remember. My memory is tenacious; he knows that, and so the litany begins... from 4906 Woodward Avenue, which he built with his own hands (and partly mine)...
His eyes are closed now and as he recalls, he recites; my eyes are closed, too, and I am remembering with him... and these, his memories of being a good father, chary of his resources, patiently awaiting the results he foresaw and planned for, are clear, poignant, bittersweet. And triumphant.
For he wants me to know, and to sear into my mind that he made money enough for his family, enough for himself and Miss Ellie so they would burden no one, and something for the next generation, too. He was proud, as he had the right to be; not arrogant. He knew what he was due... and knew that I would give it, full measure. We who had often engaged in combat and dispute fully understood each word now, each recollection, each and every nuance, delivered with sureness and finality... for on this subject there was nothing more to say... and we were both glad he had done so, so well, every word apt, every description complete and accurate.
He was tired now. So was I.
It is often said that as parents and children age they reverse roles. But this is not entirely true. Instead a situation infinitely more complex and difficult emerges; a situation where the parent may remain the parent as well as the child and where the child may be in an instant not just one but both, thereby dramatically increasing the possibilities for confusion; things clear to one, misunderstood by the other. It would be easier, far easier, if a simple role reversal took place, clear to each, but this is not the way it is for either party. And so, before the darkness falls, we need to learn, again who we are, who they are, what they need and must have, what we have that we may give and give still more. In short, we must at their end begin again, new roles to learn and urgent, too, for the darkness is nigh and there is much to learn and do before the end.
Thus one of the most important, revealing and timely conversations of my life ended; we were weary and needed rest. The meeting, by phone, ended as easily as a sigh. We had done what needed to be done.
But I had one more thing to do, one more thing to listen to, to ponder. Bruce Springsteen's 1982 evocation "My Father's House." And I went to a search engine to play it. I urge you to find it now... and ready yourself for a melody and lyrics which cut deep and place an unrelenting memory in you.
""Last night I dreamed that I was a child... I was trying to make it home... before the darkness falls I ran with my heart pounding down that broken path... I broke through the trees and there in the night My father's house stood shining hard and bright the branches and brambles tore my clothes and scratched my arms But I ran till I fell shaking in his arms."
Now I can do as much for him... and must.

Benefits Of Article Advertising Or Article Marketing
Article advertising or article marketing can be the key to not only making money but having a successful business. If you have a product or service that you are trying to promote then one of the best and most cost effective ways is by using article advertising.
Article advertising is a type of marketing effort in which you write short articles, about 400-600 words, related to the product or service you wish to promote. If they are well written they will, after getting distributed to various online article directories that will be easily found on search engines and read by people interested in what you have to offer.
In article advertising, well written article will be constructed in such a way that it has strategic placements of keywords and keyword phrases used by those who are searching for what you have to offer. This will make your article easily found by search engines and can help get you noticed earlier by future consumers.
Some of the benefits of article advertising are:
1) It is a great way to gain respect in the niche you are trying to reach. If they see your well written and informative article they will see you as an authority. The more that you have written about a certain area, the more trusted you will be and the more likely they will be to buy what you offer.
2) It is very cost effective. If you write the article yourself it will only cost you the amount of time and energy you put into researching and writing the subject. If you can't write well, you can easily find those who are able to write for you who are affordable and will let you put your name on it, aka, ghostwriters. These are many times very affordable, though you need to make sure that they are able to give you unique content and are native speakers in the language you are trying to market in.
3) Links are also a great benefit to article advertising. Your well written article will have a link back to your website and will also have a resource box with a strong call to action. This will invite those reading the article to go to your site to find out more about what you have to offer. This will also help your search engine ranking.
4) It helps you reach a much larger target audience than you otherwise would have. Those who are really interested in what you are offering will be the ones who read your article. You won't be putting your marketing efforts in front of people who may or may not care about what you have to offer. It will be read by people who are truly interested in what you are doing and are also very likely to buy what you are selling.
Article marketing or article advertising is a great way to get attention to your products or services, if it is used correctly. Take some time to learn how to do it the right way or find a good ghost writer to do the work for you and you will find customers who are not only willing to buy from you, but trust that you are going to meet their needs and may come back to you for other purchases. Done correctly, article advertising can help you climb to the top and make you a success.

7 Ways To Increase Google Adsense Money
Here?s seven tips to increase your Google Adsense money.
1. Limit your Adsense blocks to one per page. While you might think that multiple ads mean multiple ways to increase your Google Adsense money, what really happens is that lower value ads are placed on your site. If the visitor is going to click, you want him to click on a high value ad.
2. Use multiple formats. The main Ads by Google block is great, but it is only one of three formats. The other two are the text link ad (which you can make look like your navigation bar) and the Google search tool. Using one of each of these formats does not violate rule #1.
3. Place a large rectangle above the fold. The best way to format a page is to have your headline followed by a large Adsense block. Start the keyword-rich article down below.
4. Have content rich sites. You should try to have at least three phrases on each page that Google can ?grab ahold of? to make ad placements. One of the quickest ways to lose your shirt is for Google to not be able to place any ads and display public service ads instead.
5. If you want to make Google Adsense money, you have got to chase higher paying keywords. As you build websites, you will find that some Adsense clicks are only worth a penny or two while others bring in a couple of dollars. Highly competitive high dollar industries like insurance and personal injury law tend to be best. When in doubt, use the Google Adwords tool to determine whether advertisers in the industry are spending a large amount per click.
6. Generate more traffic to your site. If you have a click through rate of 10 percent, you know that 10 percent of all new visitors who come to your site will make you money. So, go out and entice more people to your site. It will make you more Google Adsense money.
7. Test, test test. All of the above are suggestions based on ?best practices? that other people have observed. But to make real Google Adsense money, you?ve got to test things out yourself. Change the colors on the ads and see whether that affects your click through rate. Move the ads around on the page. Try different size ads. Then, when you find a format that works, stick with it.
Google Adsense can be a profitable way to build websites for cash. But, you have to treat it as a business. In most cases, blogging about your life won?t bring you much in the way of Adsense income. While even earning a few dollars for keeping an online diary appeals to some, if you want to make a business out of being a Google Adsense publisher, you have to take it seriously.
That means chasing the high value keywords, developing Adsense friendly websites, and driving traffic to it. You have to test to make sure everything is producing as well as it can.
And, that?s how you make real Google Adsense money.

Celebrating a man, his mission, his achievement, his bliss... by that man himself.
by Dr. Jeffrey Lant
Author's program note. Today is a very special day in my life, and I want to share it with you, my reader. Today is the day I reach my goal of publishing 500 articles in my current series of commentaries. Thus I have become, literally at the stroke of a pen, a man read by millions worldwide. And that produces a feeling of excitement, enthusiasm, euphoria. Personal happiness fuels the entire enterprise.
At least four times each week since September 18, 2010, I have faced the daunting blank page, aiming to transform that white space into words of magic! Timely significance! Perfect accuracy! Words that stop you in your tracks to read and consider... and then keep, selecting them as guides for the betterment of your life. And I have done all this at record speed... thereby proving yet again that being a senior citizen is a state of mind, not a date on the calendar or some particular disfigurerment or debilitating condition or daily diminishment.
And so for this article of achievement, commendation and insight, I have selected the stirring march by Sir William Walton (whose life and sound were profiled in this series). It's called "Crown Imperial" (1937). And most every day I play it online to herald my first appearance of the day, at a time that could be anywhere and everywhere on clocks truly challenged to keep up with me, a very mobile target.
Go now to any search engine and play this effusion of stateliness... and now imagine my advent embellished with these words:
Arriba! Arriba! Arriba! El Imperator! The Master of the Lyric Words...
These stirring words, which arrest the attention of all, causing a sea of viewers worldwide to stop! Read! Consider... and so be captivated. Such an entrance never loses its captivating power and arching thrill for the man.... me!... who is so announced.
Written on the screen.
I write each commentary live, on the screen of the Worldprofit Live Business Center at worldprofit.com. Each day, therefore, becomes not just a writing opportunity for me... but a writing class for all observers worldwide. Thus, without paying a single penny people everywhere get this unique class and all its pragmatic and entrancing writing skills free! You, too, can join us there on any morning and so, at once, find yourself a sentient part of an educational experience which no other writer makes available, much less available for free! And so as paragraph by paragraph emerges from my brain, it is instantly posted on the screen thereby showing the enraptured audience how to write to be read, to be persuasive, to be memorable, to be lyric.
But such mighty outcomes are never the sole result of my efforts, no matter how consequential and important those might be. The result is rather the effort of the Worldprofit Writing Team, good people and true who esteem it their honor and pleasure (though, in truth, they are mine) by racing to find items prosaic and exact, such as correct spelling, accurate dates, quotations not misquoted and views not misstated. In short they constitute the most magnificent support team ever assembled, one which may, in fact, be unique and is certainly peerless and beyond mere praise.
The outlook that informs each commentary.
It is my firm belief that our great age of quick information (as epitomized by the Internet) is the even greater age of misinformation; information, data, statistics et al flow without relief... but necessary accuracy is often a casualty, both by design and by accident. Valuable commentators exist to correct matters, state such matters accurately and without personal agenda, whether hidden or otherwise. Commentators, therefore, exist for one reason only, to make true, detailed, honest reflections about any topic they write about.
The motto of each commentator must be the same as Harvard University, my alma mater -- "veritas" -- truth. For insomuch as truth has been a major casualty in our e-days, so must we work all the harder to ensure that its high standards are still rendered and revered, not sacrificed to accommodate views selfish, limited, and inaccurate.
Thus each and every day as I work, I remind myself that my work, like the work of any commentator, is valuable only insofar as it is based on and disseminates truth; for truth is our true master and must always remain so.
What I write about.
Once it is clear that truth is and must be the reason for writing commentary, it is crucial that you establish your subject field... or, in my ambitious and demanding case, subject fields. For my "beat" is mankind in all his works, magnificent, inspiring, degrading, deleterious, and all the rest. In short it is as broad as the epoch of mankind on Planet Earth and all his works. Thus you are as likely to find in my articles true and provocative commentary on specific animal groups moving towards unalterable extinction... to the matter of why humans bully each other and what we can do about it... to the succulent and minutely remembered pies baked by grandma... to agendas apt or wrong-headed advanced by every political party and its representatives, eminent or as yet unknown.
No subject, no matter where manifesting itself on Earth, is too limited... or so important... that it cannot be dealt with here. And as I am no idle, uncritical respecter of persons or long-established institutions and traditions -- the views I promote will always be my own, that is to say the result of long years of looking at every manner of person and event, and drawing my own conclusions... and so stating matters that you will draw your own, too; for my commentaries are never about dictating opinion, but always about informing it.
Astonishing results, millions of readers.
When I started this project, I little foresaw just how rapidly it would grow or how important it would be. But I know better now. People -- and I mean every sort and condition of people -- have done me the signal honor not merely to access and read my wide constellation of thoughts, but to laud, extol, and praise... and, yes, to offer me the benefit of their own opinions, too, which I always urge them to share...whatever those opinions might be. For maintaining sustained, interactive relationships with the world and his wife has always been my clear objective.
The future.
Aging daily, man's fate, it might be thought that I might on this occasion or shortly so announce the curtailment or even termination of my exigent work. But that will never happen. For as long as I have something useful to say to people needing to hear it (if not always welcoming) I shall continue, and gladly. It is what I was born to do, my fate, and I embrace it with the greatest possible enthusiasm.
Besides, with every commentary I write, I empower the thousands of blog publishers set up by worldprofit.com and made potent and worth attending by me. And nothing makes me happier than to know that my work, all my work, can be used by you, as it is used and published by people just like you everywhere on Earth.
Thus, I give you great Browning's great words, so beloved of my mother, now so beloved of me:
Grow old with me. The best is yet to be! The last of life for which the first was made.
Thus, if today is a memorable day, let us consider it as just the first of many such days to come... for that I shall surely achieve... if you, all of you, continue to support and sustain me in the work I consider the most important of my life; work which you have told me so often is so important in the fulfillment of yours.
